Project: Repair of Embankment Hockley
Client: Hampshire Wildlife Trust
The works in this section of the overall INHT project addressed the erosion of the embankment at Hockley Nr Winchester. Aquascience Ltd delivered this innovative embankment restoration as part of the Itchen Navigation Heritage Trail.
The whole embankment had been significantly damaged by dogs entering the marginal zone. The methodology used here utilised materials arising from a ditch clearance scheme to wet the meadows under an HLS agreement with the landowner.
The length of embankment was temporarily fenced to reduce the impact of dogs entering the marginal zone and a dog dip area placed directly above and below the new works.
Aquascience Ltd was able to deliver 1500 cubic meters of appropriately seeded material directly to the bank edge.
The benefits included:
- Low impact on the SSSI and SAC
- Reduction of interruptions to works programmed through bad weather.
- Low Carbon footprint/ m3 of material delivered.
- Safe methodology for the transport of all materials Enhanced public interest in the project through innovative approach
