Project: Gravel Bed Raising River Anton
Client: Environment Agency Project | Test Valley Borough Council
Bed raising was carried out to create a 60m spawning riffle on a previously silt-filled channel. In conjunction with the EA an innovative methodology w as devised to retain silt in situ. A membrane was installed over which 200mm of flint gravels were placed.
The method proved to be extremely successful and several advantages were noted e.g. t here was no need to remove and dispose of silt, silt was not displaced to contaminate downstream sites and volumes of gravel (and therefore project costs) were minimised. The project has proved resilient and met with its objectives.
